The fallout from next week’s US election could be “catastrophic” for Brits, an expert has claimed. Donald Trump is gearing up for a fierce battle against Kamala Harris in the race for the White House, come Tuesday, November 5.
With no last-minute swell for either Republicans or Democrats as America draws near to election day, commentators have voiced concerns that the potential “chaotic” fallout could “release the wolves outside the UK’s door” – figures like Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, security expert Professor Anthony Glees outlined a grim situation if Kamala Harris appears “to win via election interference” on the night of the election on November 5.
He said: “Trump supporters could perceive any sort of close-run Republican defeat on the night as the result of foul play and election interference from the Democrats.
“And the prospect of what we would call a civil war – one side fighting another side – that is very real. And that’s dangerous for us here in the UK.”
The historian also explained how an outright victory for the Republicans would spell bad news for the UK. “It’s dangerous for Brits if Trump wins – our security needs require us to be close to the US.
“What Trump has said about NATO, and who he could bring into power with him. We could have his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has close ties with Netanyahu and the Israelis. I fear if Trump wins, Netanyahu will be uncontrollable and the Middle East will be in total turmoil, I’ve no doubt about that.”
He added: “Putin sees his chance and Netanyahu sees his chance with a victory for the Republicans. This is a nightmare scenario for us – an election that none of us can vote in. President Zelenskyy will be finished.
“Keir Starmer needs to work out how he’s going to deal with the wolves at our door – like Putin – that could be unleashed if there is election chaos or a Trump victory.”
